Nutt Uncut: Conversation with Professor David Nutt

Jan 20, 2021

Description

Depending on who you’re talking to, Professor David Nutt is either “the godfather of psychedelics” or “the scientist who got sacked” - the latter being a phrase he uses to describe himself in ‘Drugs Without the Hot Air” (published in 2012).

Since that book was published, Prof Nutt has been instrumental in the burgeoning field of psychedelic research, waking us up to the realities of the lies and “fake news” of Nixon’s so-called “war on drugs”. He played an active role in the battle to make cannabis legal to prescribe in the UK for medicinal purposes, and continues to advocate for more prescriptions to be issued on the NHS. His team at Imperial College London’s Centre for Psychedelic Research team have become global leaders in their field, paving the way for new possibilities in mental health treatment.

We are honoured to welcome Prof Nutt to the Psychedelic Society in celebration of the release of his new autobiography ‘Nutt Uncut’. Mags Houston - who works for both the Society and Drug Science (founded by Prof Nutt) - will host an interview before opening up for questions from the audience. We know you’ll have plenty!

You will have the opportunity to order a copy of the book with your ticket at a discounted rate (plus free postage!). In his customary style, the autobiography is straight-talking, honest and shocking. Nutt describes his colourful career, ground-breaking research and scientific achievements, including an in-depth study of many currently prohibited substances, and their potential harms / benefits. This book does what Nutt does best: it tells us the truth - both about the drugs themselves and of the political “policy madness” Nutt has encountered at every turn.
