Description

For many years it was popularly believed that combinations of psilocybin and antidepressants were toxic. As clinical trials proceed and more persons in the public use mushrooms with therapeutic intention, there is accumulating information on the drug interaction potential between psilocybin and antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs).
Emerging data supports that antidepressants are non-toxic in combination with psilocybin. Additionally, psychedelic responses to psilocybin ingestion among antidepressant users appears to range from fully sensitive to severely diminished effects.
It begs the question: How can antidepressant users understand if they 'must' taper antidepressants to use psilocybin successfully?
Practical approaches may be useful in aiding decision making about whether persons ‘must’ taper antidepressants to successfully use psilocybin or whether it could be compatible for them. This workshop will review recent data with a focus on combinations of antidepressants and psilocybin as well as hypothesize practical approaches individuals may elect to employ to better gauge and understand their sensitivity to psilocybin while using antidepressants.
