This course with Katia Tonkin, MBBS, MD, FRCPC, FRCP (UK) reviews the basic science behind the potential uses of cannabis in patients with cancer. It delves into the complexities in studies of cancer cell lines and animal models. The module discusses the studies examining the receptors in the body that are involved with endogenous and exogenous cannabinoids and how they relate to cancer. Due to a lack of randomized controlled trials, Dr. Tonkin explores the complexity of clinical data from the symptom control studies that exist.
